What I Did On My Summer Vacation

July 14, 2008

As you can see, I came home from vacation with a broken ankle. I’d like to say I did it skateboarding -  but I really slid down a gravelly slope while trying to take a picture of a pristine Oregon lake. How boring! Never did get that picture…

I can hop from the couch to the computer, so I’ll be adding more lessons to Alibony soon.

Maybe more slowly, however…

Flatten Your Image Without Losing Layers

May 12, 2008

Do you ever need to work on a flattened version of your image, but you don’t want to lose all those layers you’ve painstakingly added? You can use this keyboard shortcut to create a layer that contains a flattened version of your image AND preserve the individual layers.

To create the flattened layer:

  1. In the Layers palette, press Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click to select the layers you want to flatten (merge).
  2. With all layers selected, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E. A new layer that contains the flattened version is created above the selected layers.
  3. Optionally, copy and paste the flattened layer to a new document.

First Video Lesson Launches!

April 1, 2008

Today my first video lesson was launched on blip.tv! Visit the Alibony Photoshop Elements Tips show to subscribe to new episodes in your Feed Reader.

If you prefer Quicktime, a Quicktime version is also available on the video page on the Alibony web site.

The first lesson is a video version of a previous tutorial on changing eye color.

You can enhance your photo subject’s eyes or even change eye color by using a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer in Photoshop Elements.

Note: In this example, we’re changing eye color from gray to green, but you can use the same procedure to change the color of any item in your image.

Photoshop Elements: 3 Dotty Embellishments

March 30, 2008

We’re back! The site is all transitioned to the new Internet provider and things are going smoothly after a few glitches (of course).

And I’ve got a new lesson for you!

Go a bit dotty with this three-part lesson. We will use the Color Halftone Filter to create a dotted frame for a photo, a dotted halo effect around a selection, and some dotted brushes for embellishments.

Part 1: Dotted Frame

Part 2: Dotted Halo Effect

Part 3: Dotted Brushes
